Siarter Iaith - Ysgol Pentrebaen

Y Criw Cymraeg

The Criw Cymraeg are a group of children who sit on the committee of the Cyngor Cymreig Campus Council who are enthusiastic in promoting the Welsh language within and outside of the School. They meet regularly to discuss ideas and to monitor the impact of their ideas against the charter's targets.

Ms. Janik is responsible for overseeing the Criw Cymraeg and helping them with their arrangements.

What is Siarter Iaith?

The Siarter Iaith is a scheme to promote the use of Welsh socially in schools in Wales. Two heroes, Seren and Sbarc help to promote the work of the Siarter Iaith. These two heroes on posters and badges will encourage children between the ages of 3 and 7 in School to use the language on the playground, at home and in the classroom.

As part of the Siarter Iaith, each individual school completes a basic exercise to determine the use of the language before developing an action plan to work towards a bronze, silver or gold award. The scheme encourages participation by all members of the school community - pupils, parents, school governors and the wider community. We are currently working towards winning the Bronze award in February.

Communication is an important part of contemporary life - growing up bilingually means that children will develop life skills.
